The assistant inspector-general of police (AIG) in charge of Zone 3, Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, has advised officers and men of the Taraba State Police Command to remain vigilant, professional and committed to protecting life and property in the state.

Adeniran gave the advice yesterday during a familiarisation visit to the command headquarters in Jalingo, the state capital, where he proceeded to Sardauna local government area to assess the security situation at the border communities with Cameroon.

The visit formed part of the AIG’s familiarisation tour of commands under Zone 3 as he seeks to strengthen policing strategies and improve operational effectiveness across the zone.

He addressed officers on emerging security challenges and the need for proactive policing and adherence to professional ethics.

The police chief expressed concern over the growing insecurity in parts of the country, particularly incidents of kidnapping and urged the officers to intensify efforts at preventing similar occurrences in Taraba State.

Referring to the recent abduction of school children in Oyo State, Adeniran stressed the need for adequate security around schools, especially those located in remote and vulnerable areas.

He directed officers to strengthen intelligence gathering, school patrols and community engagement to ensure that criminal activities are detected and prevented before they occur.

“Every police officer is on duty 24 hours a day. Officers must remain alert and be ready to act whenever they observe suspicious activities within their environment,” he said.

The AIG encouraged officers to cultivate closer relationships with members of the public, as effective policing depends largely on credible information from communities.

He warned officers against fraternising with criminals or engaging in any form of misconduct, stressing that the police profession remains a noble calling that demands integrity and discipline.

AIG Adeniran also called for increased visibility policing across the state, and urged officers deployed on patrol and checkpoints to focus on crime prevention rather than extortion or other unethical practices.

He reminded personnel to be knowledgeable about police procedures and operational guidelines, insisting that professionalism and intelligence-led policing remain key to tackling crime and recovering stolen property.

The zonal police chief further directed officers to respect the fundamental human rights of citizens and avoid actions capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

He condemned acts of brutality and unlawful treatment of suspects, and warned officers to conduct themselves in line with established rules of engagement and legal provisions.

The AIG also cautioned officers against inappropriate use of social media and unprofessional conduct while in uniform, urging them to uphold the dignity and reputation of the Force at all times.

He assured officers of support of the zonal command while urging them to remain dedicated to their duties in the service of the nation.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Mookwap Sebastine Dongshal  thanked the Zone 3 AIC for the visit and promised sustain the existing peace in the state.
