Airtel Nigeria, a leading telecommunications company and subsidiary of Airtel Africa, has announced a bold move to double its capital investment in the country, reinforcing its long-term commitment to expanding network infrastructure, advancing digital inclusion, and enhancing customer experience nationwide.

This increased investment will power a wide range of initiatives, including infrastructure upgrades, expansion into rural communities, introduction of cutting-edge data technologies, improved customer service delivery, and broader community-focused programs. The development cements Airtel Nigeria’s central role in supporting the nation’s digital transformation and economic development.

Commenting on the development, Airtel Nigeria CEO, Dinesh Balsingh, while speaking to journalists in Lagos, said, “Our decision to double our investment reflects our deep commitment to Nigeria’s future. As a company that views Nigeria as home, we are investing in transformative infrastructure that will deliver unmatched value to our customers and make connectivity an everyday reality for more Nigerians. This is not just about technology; it’s about empowerment and making a positive difference in people’s lives.”

A key focus of the investment is the expansion and modernisation of Airtel’s network infrastructure. The company is accelerating the rollout of 5G technology across its sites, promising faster data speeds and improved service quality. Airtel is also adding more sites in underserved rural areas, with the goal of extending reliable mobile coverage to millions more Nigerians.

To support the country’s growing demand for data, Airtel is upgrading existing sites with high-capacity radio equipment and expanding its fiber optic footprint. The telco is also repositioning existing fiber lines to improve network optimization and performance. Additional investments include the development of a new, state-of-the-art data center and the enhancement of current facilities to leverage international bandwidth through 2Africa cable landing stations.

As part of efforts to enhance customer access and service delivery, Airtel is building more retail outlets nationwide and introducing modern terminals and devices to facilitate broader access to home broadband and mobile data services.

The company has recently rolled out customer-centric innovations such as the Airtel AI Spam Alert Service, which warns subscribers about potential SMS scams in real time. It has also upgraded its call center operations and personalized its mobile packages through smarter self-service platforms, making it easier for users to manage their plans.

Beyond its technological advancements, Airtel Nigeria continues to support national development through impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. In collaboration with UNICEF, the telco’s Reimagine Education Program has connected over 1,200 public primary schools to the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP), a digital learning platform.

Recently, Airtel further demonstrated its commitment to skills development by donating N1 billion to the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talents (3MTT) initiative, aimed at equipping young Nigerians for local and international tech opportunities.

Airtel’s latest investment is expected to stimulate job creation, foster entrepreneurship, and build a more resilient and inclusive digital economy.
