The chairman-elect of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has donated a borehole to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration with the media and advancing grassroots development.

The donation was announced on Thursday when the chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, paid him a congratulatory courtesy visit following his victory in the last Saturday’s Abuja Municipal Area Council election. Ike was represented at the meeting by the Council’s Vice Chairman, Yahaya Ndambabo.

Speaking on behalf of the NUJ chairman, Ndambabo expressed gratitude for both the warm reception and the borehole donation, describing the gesture as a reflection of Maikalangu’s commitment to community-driven development and partnership with the media.

“This well-deserved victory reflects your people-oriented leadership, now further demonstrated by this generous donation to the NUJ FCT Council,” Ndambabo said.

He congratulated the chairman-elect on what he termed a landslide victory, noting that the outcome of the polls showed the confidence reposed in him by residents of AMAC. Ndambabo also highlighted key infrastructural projects executed during Maikalangu’s first tenure in office, particularly in Sabon Lugbe and other communities.

He reaffirmed the NUJ FCT Council’s role in providing coverage and monitoring of elections across AMAC and the five other area councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), urging the chairman-elect to consolidate on the achievements recorded in his first term as he prepared for a second mandate.

Responding, Maikalangu thanked the NUJ FCT Council for the visit and for what he described as consistent media support.

“Politics is local; it is about the people at the grassroots, not just the city centres,” he said.

He attributed his re-election to sustained grassroots engagement, infrastructural development, and empowerment initiatives that resonated with voters, adding that projects executed during his first term laid the foundation for renewed public trust.

The chairman-elect also commended the unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that strong grassroots mobilization played a significant role in the high voter turnout recorded during the elections.

Maikalangu said the borehole donation underscored his administration’s commitment to collaborative development and sustained engagement with critical stakeholders, including the media, as his second term begins.
