A former President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, has pledged to work towards the success of President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid.

Anyim made the disclosure when the leadership of Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN), led by its National Convener and Facilitator, Hon. Calistus Anyanwu, decorated him as the National Grand Patron of the pro-Tinubu political organisation at the weekend.

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation commended President Tinubu for establishing the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he said was a flagship policy achievement that had meaningfully expanded access to tertiary education for children, especially those from poor families.

Anyim said his acceptance of the role was not merely a political courtesy but a considered judgment on the administration’s record, noting that RHGN would deploy his standing and credibility as a central pillar of its campaign in the months ahead.

RHGN National Convener and Facilitator, Hon. Calistus Anyanwu, said the involvement of the elder statesman was an aggressive and calculated opening move in the battle for Southeast votes ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Anyanwu outlined an already operational grassroots mobilisation drive involving ward-level structures, community leaders, youth groups, and political operatives across the Southeast.

He acknowledged the initial economic difficulties that accompanied the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda but firmly defended the president’s direction, insisting that the reforms were necessary and timely and that the economy is now rebounding.

He said: “I know that we experienced initial economic difficulties with President Bola Tinubu’s policies, but we can all see that they were necessary, and we can now see that the economy has picked up again.

“Senator Anyim, we know you command huge influence in Ebonyi State and across Igboland, and that is why we are happy to have you as RHGN National Grand Patron.

“Sir, your acceptance of the National Grand Patron role is being read by political observers as a weighty strategic alignment that lends RHGN credibility and political muscle in the zone. I assure you that we will not rest on our oars but will work hard to attract more supporters for President Tinubu’s second term, and together we will achieve it,” Anyanwu said.

In a related development, the group also decorated a veteran Imo State politician, Chief Longers Anyanwu, as an Ambassador, a move it described as an aggressive and calculated opening move in the battle for Southeast votes ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

RHGN National Convener, Anyanwu, said Chief Longers is expected to deliver community-level political capital, local penetration, and the kind of organisational muscle that translates into structures and voter mobilisation.

He said Chief Longers brings strong grassroots networks and cross-party connections in Imo State and across Nigeria into the political system.

According to him, while Senator Anyim provides national stature and symbolic weight, Chief Longers brings complementary qualities to the organisation, especially in Imo State.

Furthermore, he said public opinion across the country had begun to shift in the President’s favour because Nigerians were beginning to see the transformation that had followed the reforms.

According to him, political observers view the recruitment of credible and regionally respected figures from within the Igbo political establishment as a powerful strategy to deploy their voices and networks to reframe the Southeast’s relationship with the Tinubu presidency without the appearance of imposition.
