The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has, through a voice vote, affirmed Hon. Danjuma Umaru Shiddi as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Taraba State.

The affirmation took place during the party’s primary election and stakeholders’ gathering held at the collation centre in Jalingo for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly positions.

Speaking at the event, the APGA National Vice Chairman (North-East), Aminu Hamanjoda Furo, commended party members, particularly youths, women, and security agencies, for ensuring a peaceful and orderly exercise.

“Everything went excellently well and peacefully. Let me specially thank our security operatives, the women, youths, and everyone who ensured the success of the exercise,” Furo said.

He explained that the exercise was an affirmation of aspirants contesting various elective positions under the platform of the party in the state.

According to him, apart from Shiddi, who emerged as the party’s sole governorship candidate, other affirmed candidates include Salihu Ibrahim for Jalingo I State Constituency, Cyprian David Kamai for Jalingo II State Constituency, Hon. Patrick Umar for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal House of Representatives seat, while Alhaji Ali Sani Kona emerged for Taraba North Senatorial District.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Danjuma Umaru Shiddi expressed gratitude to party members and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, saying the overwhelming solidarity demonstrated during the exercise reflected the people’s desire for change in the state.

The governorship hopeful pledged to address underdevelopment, unemployment, poor infrastructure, and challenges in the education sector if elected governor.

“Our educational system is terribly bad, our youths are jobless, and there is hardship everywhere,” he said.

“My administration will provide good governance, and we will not make unfulfilled promises to the people.”

The governorship candidate urged eligible voters across the state to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that voting remains the legitimate means of changing leadership at any level.

“I urge the people not to compromise but to use their voter cards to vote out underperforming leaders. This is an opportunity for the people to elect leaders of their choice,” he added.

Hon. Shiddi also expressed confidence in APGA’s chances in the 2027 election, insisting that the party would defeat the ruling government in the state.
