MTN Nigeria has announced the opening of applications for the fifth edition of its Media Innovation Programme (MIP), with the number of fellows increased to 25 from 20 in previous editions.

The company disclosed this in a statement yesterday. It further said that the expansion of the cohort is in commemoration of the company’s 25th anniversary and reflects its continued investment in the development of Nigeria’s media industry.

Launched in 2022 in partnership with the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, the fully funded six-month certificate programme, according to MTN Nigeria, is designed to equip media professionals with the skills and knowledge required to navigate a rapidly evolving media and technology landscape.

MTN Nigeria said the programme has grown into a major media capacity-building initiative, providing participants with access to training, industry engagement, and professional networks. The fifth edition will feature an expanded curriculum and a broader pan-African outlook.

Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Nigeria, Tobe Okigbo, said the programme underscores the company’s commitment to supporting the media industry through knowledge sharing and professional development.

He noted that the increase in the number of fellows aligns with the company’s 25-year milestone and underscores the need to continue investing in media professionals shaping the industry’s future.

Dean of the School of Media and Communication, Ikechukwu Obiaya, said the initiative combines academic learning with practical industry experience to prepare participants for leadership roles in the media sector.

The organisers said the programme would be delivered through academic sessions at Pan-Atlantic University, alongside industry engagements and an international study visit, adding that the international component will take place in South Africa and includes sessions at the University of Johannesburg, as well as interactions with stakeholders across the media, business, and policy sectors.
