Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents stormed Buni Gari town of Gujba local government area of Yobe State on Friday night, two days after the North East Governors’ Forum meeting in Damaturu on security issues, poverty and poor road infrastructure in the region.

A security source who confirmed that the incident occurred at midnight on Friday, said the attackers burnt some parts of the 27 Brigade Tactical Headquarters, Buni Gari.
Buni Gari is less than 7 kilometres from Buni Yadi which also accommodates the Nigerian Army Special Forces School.

Also, some of the residents told LEADERSHIP Sunday that the insurgents fired their weapons sporadically before proceeding to burn 27 Brigade and some buildings belonging to the people of the area.

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that military personnel under Operation Hadin Kai engaged the terrorists in an intense gun battle following an assault on Buni Gari, a community in Yobe State.

A credible source from the Nigerian Army confirmed the development in a brief statement on its official X (formerly Twitter) platform on Saturday.
