The Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) has rolled out a free WiFi initiative aimed at expanding internet and information access and boosting economic opportunities for residents.

The programme, currently operational in communities across Tafawa Balewa local government area and other parts of the state, is providing residents, particularly youths and women, with free internet connectivity, a move widely seen as a major step toward digital inclusion at the community level.

The chief communication officer of BWSO, Abubakar Al-Sadique, described the project as a forward-looking intervention designed to connect underserved communities to global opportunities.

According to him, access to free internet will not only enhance communication but also serve as a tool for empowerment, innovation and sustainable development.

“This initiative is about placing our communities on the global digital map. When people are connected, they are better informed, more productive and more united,” he said.

In Tafawa Balewa, a locality with a history of ethno-religious tensions, residents said the initiative is already fostering social cohesion while opening up new economic possibilities.

Chairperson of Women Mobilisation for Bala Wunti in the area, Zainab Sani Alhaji, noted that beyond easing communication, the free WiFi is helping small-scale traders and strengthening unity among residents.
