A director of information with the Bauchi State Government House, Suleiman Alhassan Dambam, has observed with delight that Governor Bala Mohammed’s recent signing of three Executive Orders will address the challenges that have hindered the state’s development for decades.

He said the challenges range from environmental degradation to security threats.

He said that the orders signed by the governor are aimed at promoting community and environmental protection, ensuring public safety and security, and prohibiting deforestation in the state.

Dambam said, “Bauchi State has faced numerous challenges that have hindered its progress and development. These challenges range from environmental degradation to security threats. However, to address these issues and ensure the overall welfare of its citizens, the state governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has signed three Executive Orders.”

In a chat with LEADERSHIP in Bauchi Wednesday, the director named the three Executive Orders No. 1 of 2024, which focuses on community and environmental protection, public safety and security, and the prohibition of deforestation, and No. 2 on unifying weights and measures in the state.

According to him, the No 3 Order addresses the issues of illegal structures in the state, such as huts and unapproved buildings, which have been common in many parts of the state.

He said, “These structures threaten public safety and security, as they are usually not built according to required standards. With this order, the state government can remove the illegal structures to ensure public safety.”

He noted that the state has been facing issues of environmental degradation, which has led to a decline in agricultural production, affecting people’s livelihoods. Hence, the order seeks to address these issues by implementing measures to protect the environment, such as promoting sustainable farming practices, proper waste management, and conservation of natural resources.

It also aims to ensure public safety and security by increasing surveillance and providing necessary resources to security agencies. It prohibits deforestation, significantly contributing to the state’s environmental degradation.

Dambam stated, “By promoting sustainable practices, this Executive Order will help improve the state’s environmental health and overall well-being of its citizens.”

On Order 2, the director explained that it aimed at standardising units of measurement to enhance trade and commerce in the state, saying that different units of measurement used in the state have led to confusion, fraud, and unfair trade practices, affecting the state’s economy.

Dambam added, “By unifying weights and measures, this Executive Order will promote fair trade practices and boost the economy, benefiting both the state and its citizens. Order 3 will also help urban planning and development, creating a more organised and livable environment for the people.

“The signing of these executive orders by Governor Senator Bala Mohammed is commendable, as it shows the government’s commitment to addressing the state’s challenges. The orders are also a significant step towards achieving sustainable development and improving the people’s lives in Bauchi State.
