At a ceremony, the commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Wanka, commended the honourees for their unwavering dedication to serving their communities.

She said the awards were meant to spotlight the sacrifices made by ordinary citizens who have become pillars of hope in their localities.

Our correspondent reports that two of the five awardees were identified through a popular radio programme, Zuwa Da Kai Yafi Sako, which promotes grassroots humanitarian efforts.

Topping the list was the Ward Head of Gwallaga,  Dan’dada Ahmadu, for his decades-long contributions to community development. He received N1 million and an Award of Excellence.
