In a bold move to overhaul the girls’ education landscape in Bauchi, the state government has pledged sweeping reforms to empower young women, particularly in underserved rural communities.

The state education commissioner, Dr. Jamila Dahiru, said this during the Bi-Annual Media Roundtable Meeting organised by the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) in Bauchi.

“Our goal is nothing short of an egalitarian society,” Dr Dahiru declared.

The commissioner, represented by permanent secretary Aliyu Gamawa, underscored a commitment to transforming public schools and ensuring that girls, regardless of their background, receive quality education.

AGILE’s State Project Coordinator, Ali Gar, detailed the project’s grassroots strategy, identifying public schools as a way to directly address educational gaps in rural communities.

He emphasised that the initiative views girls’ education as a key driver for Nigeria’s development, making strategic alliances with the media to elevate awareness and community support.

Gar said as Bauchi doubles down on education reforms, the AGILE project’s targeted approach brings new hope for a future where every girl can access quality learning and opportunity ultimately building a stronger, more equitable society.
