All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the September Edo State governorship race Senator Monday Okpebholo has sued for calm over the Benin Traditional Council crisis, urging unity and reconciliation over the matter.

The matter involved the Oba of Benin and some Enigies (Dukes) who were suspended for misrepresenting the origin of the Benin people at a public function. Governor Godwin Obaseki attempts to settle the dispute which the palace sees as demeaning to reconcile the eminent Monarch with his subjects (palace chiefs).

Okpebholo who made the call during a town hall meeting in Maryland, USA where he met and interacted with the Edo Diaspora Community, said the dispute was a distraction from governance and had brought the palace into disrepute.

He urged the Oba and Governor Obaseki to “sheath their swords and put Edo State above their interests.
