Lagos will play host to a groundbreaking event, the Big Sports Dialogue 1.0: Reshaping Nigeria’s Sports Ecosystem, scheduled for November 24, 2025. The initiative was officially launched by Mr. Osaze Ebueku, chairman of the organising committee, during a recent press conference.
Mr. Ebueku emphasised the critical importance of transforming Nigeria’s sports industry into a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and national pride. “On November 24, 2025, Lagos will welcome the most significant gathering of sports leaders, policymakers, investors, and media representatives in Nigeria’s history. The ‘Big Sports Dialogue 1.0’ is not merely a conference; it is a movement. Supported by the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), we are united in our goal to turn sports into a powerful engine for economic advancement,” he stated.
He further highlighted Nigeria’s substantial yet unfulfilled potential in sports, remarking, “The capability of Nigeria in the sports arena is clear. From the passionate support for the Super Eagles to the commendable achievements of our athletes on the world stage, we possess the talent, fervour, and resilience necessary for success.
“However, our contribution to the GDP, which stood at just 0.33% in 2021 and 0.31% in 2020, underscores a tale of unrealised potential. Today, we embark on a journey to break this cycle.”
The dialogue aims to achieve several key outcomes, including – Policy Reform: Development of a National Sports Blueprint to tackle issues related to infrastructure, funding, and governance; Private-Sector Collaboration: Facilitation of partnerships between investors and innovators to enhance grassroots development; Athlete-Centred Development: Ensuring the well-being of athletes, enabling them to thrive beyond their competitive careers and Media Amplification: An initiative to reshape narratives surrounding Nigerian sports by celebrating successes, addressing challenges, and inspiring future generations.
Among the high-profile speakers confirmed for the event are NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, NSC Director General Bukola Olopade, Amaju Pinnick, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, esteemed journalist Rufai Oseni, and other notable personalities. Additional organisers present included Jerome Obuninta, sports journalist Sylvanus Ofekun, and ace sportscaster Aron Akerejola. The _Big Sports Dialogue 1.0_ is poised to be a transformative moment in Nigeria’s sports history, bringing together stakeholders to reshape the sports ecosystem for sustainable growth and national pride.
