Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has announced his retirement from professional football, a decision he revealed in a heartfelt post on X.
“After much thought and consideration, with mixed emotions, I have decided to retire from professional football,” he wrote. “I would like to first thank God for the talent and the long career I’ve enjoyed. I also extend my gratitude to my family and friends for their unwavering love, support and understanding throughout my journey.”
The 36-year-old has had a diverse career, featuring for clubs across England, Greece, China, Ukraine, and Spain. Ideye earned 28 caps for Nigeria, scoring six goals, and was part of the squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013. He concluded by stating, “Football will always be a part of my life as I embark on my next chapter.”
