Burna Boy Bags Multiple BET Hip-Hop Awards Nomination

Grammy award winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, a.k.a Burna Boy, has bagged seven nominations for the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

The African Giant crooner tied DJ Khaled for the third most nominations behind Drake (9) and Cardi B and 21 Savage who led the nominees with 12 nods each.

Burna Boy has made history as the first African to be nominated in the Artiste of the Year category at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.

He would battle the category with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, 21 Savage, Drake, Cardi B amongst others.

His other nominations include Song of the Year – “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” ft. 21 Savage, Best Hip-Hop Video – “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” ft. 21 Savage, Best Collaboration – “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” ft. 21 Savage, Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, and Hustler of the Year.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Black Sherif, Zambia’s Sampa The Great, and South African rappers K.O and AKA were nominated in the Best International Flow category.

For the first time since the creation of the Best International Flow category in 2019, no Nigerian rapper was nominated.

The 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards will be held in Atlanta on Tuesday, Oct. 3, and will premiere on BET one week later, on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
