CHAN 2024: Super Eagles Know Foes Today As CAF Postpones Championship To August 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 slated for Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to August 2025.

The continental soccer body in a statement posted on its official website on Tuesday’s evening, said even though good progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda with the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields and other facilities, it’s technical and infrastructure experts, some of whom have been based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, advised that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities, are at the levels necessary for a successful hosting of the championship.

The statement added that the exact date in August 2025 for the commencement of the CHAN 2024 in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, the draw for championship scheduled to hold today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, will still take place.

CHAN tournament which is exclusively reserved for African footballers plying their trade in their domestic leagues was earlier slated between February 1 to 28, 2025.

Nigeria is making a return to the competition after a six-year absence. The team secured their spot in the tournament with a 3-1 aggregate victory over arch rivals Ghana during the qualifiers, marking a significant comeback to the CHAN stage.

Despite being one of Africa’s footballing powerhouses, Nigeria has yet to win the CHAN title.

Their best performances were a third-place finish at the 2014 edition in South Africa and a runners-up spot in 2018, where they lost to hosts Morocco in the final.
