The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has condemned the planned protests demanding the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The CNG described this orchestrated agitation, allegedly championed by certain Igbo political and cultural elite, activists like Omoyele Sowore, and other collaborators as a dangerous blackmail against the
Nigerian state aimed at intimidating the judiciary and destabilising the country’s peace.
During a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the national coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi , said, “It is morally reprehensible and politically irresponsible that some individuals who claim to be democrats are openly advocating for the release of a man whose violent secessionist agenda has claimed over 1,200 innocent lives, including more than 400 security personnel, burned over 100 police stations, and caused the destruction of property worth over N450 billion across the Southeast.”
The CNG warned that no amount of street protest or emotional manipulation would erase these atrocities or compel the Nigerian state to compromise the rule of law.
