Congo House has been crowned champion at the inaugural Federal Government College Kaduna Old Students Association (FGCKADOSA) Kaduna Chapter Alumni Inter-House Sports Competition held at the school’s sports ground in Malali, Kaduna from April 25 to 26, 2025.
Congo House was declared the overall champion after amassing 118 points, outpacing seven other competing houses. The final standings were as follows: Congo 118, Volta 111, Nile 95, Senegal 87, Zambezi 56, Limpopo 53, and Niger 29.
The vibrant event rekindled old friendships and evoked fond memories as alumni participated in a range of sports activities, including scrabble, chess, ludo, five-a-side football, table tennis, 50 metres race, 100 metres race, egg and spoon race, sack race, five-in-one race, 4×50 metres relay, and tug of war.
In his remarks, the Chairman of FGCKADOSA Kaduna Chapter, Mr Adesoji Bilewu (Class of 1988), praised all participants for their enthusiastic involvement, outstanding sportsmanship, and commitment to the spirit of the event. He highlighted that the competition aimed to reunite former students, strengthen relationships, and foster collective support for the school’s development.
Mr Bilewu also extended special recognition to senior alumni, affectionately referred to as the “ancestors,” who attended the event: Senior Muhammad Musa Gombe (Class of 1978), Senior Isa Yakubu (Class of 1978), Senior Uthman Garba (Class of 1978), Senior Isiaka Umaru Sule (Class of 1983), and Senior Mahmud Babatunde Ajeigbe (Class of 1984).
The Principal of Federal Government College Kaduna, Prince Adewale Adeyanju, expressed admiration for the alumni’s initiative. “This is the first time I have witnessed an alumni body organising an inter-house sports competition among themselves. I firmly believe this tradition is here to stay, and we will always be available to support this wonderful idea,” he stated.
Mr Vincent Akinbami, Chairman of the Sports Committee, conveyed his appreciation to Mr Bilewu, the executives, fellow sports committee members, and all participating alumni. He also expressed gratitude to the senior alumni in attendance, promising that the next edition would be even bigger and better.
The inaugural event successfully blended nostalgia, camaraderie, and competitive spirit, establishing a strong foundation for future alumni sporting activities at the college.
