Delegates at the state congress of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State yesterday reaffirmed the incumbent chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, for another term.
The peaceful congress, held at the Arcade Santa Arena in Ilorin, was attended by the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; his deputy, Kayode Alabi; the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yakubu Salihu-Danladi; as well as all members of the National Assembly from the state.
Party leaders and members returned Fagbemi and other members of the state executive committee to their positions, a development described by party stalwarts as a strong vote of confidence in their performance.
Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Alkali Alibe, said the affirmation of the leadership complied with the party’s constitution.
“Kwara State has been consolidating politically under your leadership. People are happy under your stewardship as the Executive Governor, and we have seen the evidence across areas we visited,” he said.
In his remarks, Governor AbdulRazaq said his administration had raised the bar of good and impactful governance through unprecedented strides in infrastructural renewal, revenue reforms, improvements in education and basic healthcare, and social security programmes.
He noted that infrastructure had been modernised across key sectors, particularly roads, schools, and hospitals, adding that his eventual successor would be challenged to further raise the standard.
The governor reiterated that he had no interest in building a political dynasty, emphasizing that his focus had been on leaving behind tangible developmental legacies.
“Congratulations on our journey so far. Congratulations for meeting peacefully and successfully today. I’ll give us a pass mark,” he said.
Earlier, state APC chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi highlighted achievements under the APC administration, including the construction of 586km of roads and the hiring of 8,912 teachers , the highest since 1999 , as well as attaining the country’s lowest child mortality rate, among other milestones.
