The Council of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria (COHEADS) has ratified the appointment of the rector of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Dr Mohammed Kabir Abdullahi, as its chairman.

The ratification was announced at the council’s 161st regular general meeting following a letter dated March, 31, 2026 signed by the council’s secretary, Mas’ud Elelu.

In a related development, the COHEADS Executive Committee, led by its chairman, Dr Mohammed Kabir Abdullahi, paid a courtesy visit to the executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof Idris Muhammad Bugaje, at the Board’s Liaison Office in Abuja.

The delegation hailed Prof Bugaje on his reappointment for another five-year term just as the NBTE boss commended the Executive Committee of COHEADS for the gesture.

Addressing the COHEADS’ meeting, Bugaje announced the introduction of a new intervention tagged “One Polytechnic, One Product” (1P-1P), aimed at promoting innovation and national self-reliance through institution-based product development.

The COHEADS meeting chaired by the new chairman, also deliberated on key issues affecting polytechnic education in Nigeria, including the report of a retreat held in January 2026, which brought together chairmen of Governing Councils, Commissioners of Education and Principal Officers of polytechnics.

Other matters discussed included preparations for the 2026 Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) and the forthcoming World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics conference scheduled to hold in Nairobi, Kenya, from November 23rd to 27th, 2026, with the theme “Building Skills for Sustainability, Innovation and Global Employability.”
