Rising-Up for a United Nigeria (RUN), an umbrella Civil Society Organisation (CSO) for Nigerian youth and middle-aged citizens, has commemorated the one-year anniversary of Senator George Akume’s tenure as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), applauding his notable achievements and reaffirming its commitment to collaboration and support.

After an emergency meeting to assess Akume’s first year as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and express gratitude to the president for appointing him, Amb. Solomon Adodo and Otunba Michael Msuaan, met with journalists to share the outcome of the meeting. They revealed that Civil Society Organisations had recognised Senator Akume’s commitment to promoting stability, progress and inclusive governance and expressed appreciation for his efforts to enhance citizen engagement and empower the youth.

Amb. Adodo emphasised the strategic importance of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) in facilitating government operations, describing it as the policy hub and engine room of any administration. He credited Akume, a former governor of Benue State and minister, for bringing stability and success to the current administration without the controversies that previously plagued the OSGF.

Otunba Michael Msuaan highlighted Akume’s experience as a seasoned administrator and former permanent secretary in the Benue civil service, stressing the positive impact of his guidance and advice on governance. He said Akume’s involvement had resulted in increased participation of Nigerians in governance, particularly among the younger and middle-aged citizens, some of who have been appointed to positions of responsibility in government.
