A coalition of civil society groups under the banner of Good Governance and Accountability Watchdogs has applauded President Bola Tinubu for extending the tenure of the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the coalition described the president’s decision as a bold move that reinforces the federal government’s commitment to sustaining reforms within the Customs Service.
Coordinator of the group, Abdullahi Ibrahim, said Adeniyi’s leadership had brought significant improvements in revenue generation, border security, anti-smuggling efforts, and trade facilitation. He noted that the Customs Service under Adeniyi had embraced modernisation and strategic reforms that contributed to plugging revenue leakages and improving port operations.
“We pass a vote of confidence on CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and his team of professionals whose dedication and integrity have repositioned the Customs as a key player in Nigeria’s economic development,” Ibrahim stated.
The coalition expressed optimism that the tenure extension would further enhance investor confidence, strengthen service delivery, and boost Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global trade space.
