With the succinct goal of advocating for access to quality education and improved teacher’s welfare.
Two major Non Governmental Organizations in Nigeria-Flexisaf Foundation and Ilmi Childrens’ Fund (ICF), have collaborated to host the first edition of a Children sports event titled the “Education Marathon 1.0” with the view to advocating for access to quality education for Children and to also demand for an improvement in the welfare of teachers and tutors in both primary and secondary schools.
The event, which is a major landmark in both Organization’s continued quest to ensure that the rate of out of school children in Nigeria drops to the barest minimum, is also conceived to primarily breed socially responsible youngsters through healthy networks, as participants (Children) from both public and primary schools took part in an array of well curated games like games like Football Water bucket race, Egg race, relay race, Sack race and Tug of War.
The ace Super Eagles of Nigeria skipper -Ahmed Musa while presenting medals to the winners of the football games, enjoined the kids not to lose focus, but to groom their talents and ensure that they excel in their studies through hard work. Other dignitaries at the event include the Hon Justice Amina Adamu Augie (JSC), Mrs Maryam Uwais, the Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund, and Hon Kabir Ibrahim Tukura from the Federal House of Representatives. All the dignitaries at different times commended the organizations for coming up with the event as the country needs innovations like this to steer the minds of its children to productive activities.
According to the Executive Director of Flexisaf Foundation- Amina Abubakar, the event like many before it that the foundation has done is a right step in the right direction in the foundation’s mission to see that every child gets the unhindered access to quality education, and to conscientize policy makers to implement the various regulations and white papers that prioritizes access to basic information and improved teachers’s welfare in the country.
Also Mrs.Maryam Augie-Abdulmumin, the Executive Director of Ilmi Childrens’ Fund (ICF) added that, ICF in it’s customary manner, will not relent in supporting the SDGs as it relates to banishing illiteracy and ensuring that vulnerable children in our country get access to Education. She added that the event is one of many to come as citizens must rise to ensure that we breed socially responsible adults and talented children in our clime.
