Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has admitted that former US President Donald Trump left him feeling frightened after he gatecrashed their Club World Cup trophy ceremony. Trump was invited to present the trophy after the Blues triumphed over Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final.
However, the former president lingered on stage among the celebrating players while Reece James held the trophy aloft, much to the confusion of everyone present.
“We had been informed that Trump would come to present us with the trophy and that we couldn’t lift it until he left,” Cucurella told Spanish journalist Gerard Romero. “We were all there waiting for him to depart, but he didn’t seem inclined to leave.
“We looked at him, and he said, ‘Get him up, I’ll stay here, and so on.’ And I wondered who would dare say anything to him, you know…
I was scared out of my wits!”
