Delta State government has introduced mandatory smoke emission permits for commercial and company vehicles within the state in line with its commitment to environmental protection, public health and sustainable urban transport.
The state government warned that non-compliance would not be tolerated and violators would be prosecuted.
The commissioner for Transport, Mr Onoriode Agofure, said the initiative is in line with the Delta State Internal Revenue Law, 2020, which will take effect from this year.
The commissioner said the move is aimed at reducing the dangers posed by vehicle emissions and ensuring environmental sustainability.
“Vehicle owners are required to obtain the permit from the Vehicle Inspection Offices (VIO) statewide,” he said.
Agofure added that the introduction of the permit underscores the administration’s commitment to environmental protection, public health and sustainable urban transport.
He advised vehicle owners to comply with the new regulation to avoid penalties and for them to contribute to a safer and cleaner Delta State.
