Dolly Parton’s Songs Surge After Death As ‘Jolene’ Leads Streaming Boom

Dolly Parton’s music has experienced a dramatic surge in popularity following the country music legend’s death, with fans turning to her catalogue to revisit some of her most enduring songs.

According to music data company Luminate, Parton’s US on-demand streams jumped 2,222 per cent on Tuesday compared with the previous day.

“Jolene” led the surge, recording 2.7 million US on-demand streams on Tuesday — a 1,276.15 per cent increase. “9 to 5” followed with 2.3 million streams, while “I Will Always Love You” recorded 1.7 million.

“Here You Come Again” drew 1.3 million streams, while “Islands in the Stream”, her famous duet with Kenny Rogers, rounded out the top five with 1.1 million.

The increase was also reflected globally. Parton’s catalogue generated 34.9 million streams worldwide on Tuesday, representing a 1,408 per cent rise from Monday.

Her music also recorded a sharp increase in sales in the US, with 7,300 digital and physical products sold on Tuesday, a 7,739 per cent increase.

Audio and video streams also climbed, reaching 26.3 million in the US and 35 million worldwide.

“Jolene”, which gave Parton her first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973, is now expected to receive renewed attention on the chart following the surge in listening.
