The Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has arrested a driver (name withheld) for allegedly violating traffic laws and damaging flowers planted by the state government along a major road.
The incident occurred on Thursday along the Murtala Muhammad Way in Kano metropolis, where the driver reportedly crossed the road from an unauthorised section and drove over the newly planted flowers.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of KAROTA, Abubakar Ibrahim Sharada, revealed the driver would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
Sharada also warned motorists against breaking traffic regulations, emphasising that the agency would not condone destruction of public assets.
“The government is funding these trees to mitigate climate change and other environmental challenges, so we will not sit back and watch one person destroy efforts meant to benefit thousands,” Sharada stated.
The state government and its agencies have intensified efforts to ensure the survival of the trees that were planted to mitigate the impact of climate change in the state.
LEADERSHIP recalls that in May, 2025, the Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change secured conviction against 5 persons for allowing their goats to roam freely and destroyed government-planted trees along Lodge Road in the state.
