In a bid to stem growing incidences of internet scams, popularly called Yahoo frauds, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) busted a syndicate of organized cyber criminals and arrested no fewer than 19 undergraduate suspects.

This followed the raiding of the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Ikot Akpaden in Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area, at the weekend.

LEADERSHIP gathered the suspects were rounded up at their private hostels including Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge, following intelligence and several months of painstaking surveillance.

Disclosing the breakthrough, the anti-graft agency on behalf of the Chairman, Abulrasheed Bawa, explained “their arrest followed several months of surveillance on their suspected involvement in romance scam, fraudulent crypto currency transactions and impersonation.”
