Following persistent attacks and killing of innocent people by bandits in his domain, the Emir of Argungu in Kebbi State, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammed Mera, has advised people of the emirate to legally possess arms to defend themselves.

He made the call during a meeting with ward, village and district heads at his palace in Argungu on Friday.

The emir lamented that many people in villages and communities in the emirate had been killed and properties had been lost to bandits.  He said many residents including traditional rulers had abandoned their domains for safe places as a result of the attacks.

“Let me urge you to as a matter of urgency possess arms but legally, in order to fight these criminals who always attack you unprepared in your houses, shops and farmlands, we can no longer allow these criminal elements come and attack us without defending ourselves,” the emir said.
