The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the commencement of the sale of e-tags, which will be required for entry into the 24 federal airports across the country.

The announcement said the sale commences on Friday, May 17, 2024.

FAAN disclosed this through its X handle (formerly Twitter) on Friday, following the outcome of the recent Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings where it ruled out free e-tags for notable Nigerians.

Among these policies, the FEC approved a mandate requiring all users of federal airports to pay tolls at the gates before gaining access.

This policy applies to everyone, including the President and Vice President.

According to FAAN, “The sale of E-tags aligns with a presidential directive approved in the latest Federal Executive Council meeting, which mandates that all users of federal airports across the country must pay tolls at the gates.”

This development comes amidst economic challenges following the removal of subsidies and the floating of the naira.

These hardships have led the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to request an increase in the minimum wage which is currently causing unrest within the government.

FAAN noted that motorists without E-tags will have the option to pay cash at the access gates before entry to the airport, with non-compliant drivers being denied entry.

The statement also provided locations and contact information for obtaining E-tags at the international airports in Lagos and Abuja.

At Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, E-tags can be obtained at the Office of the Head of Department of Commercial Operations, Terminal 1, 5th floor, or by calling 08033713796 or 08023546030.

At Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, E-tags can be obtained at the HOD Commercial Office at the General Aviation Terminal, or by calling 08034633527 or 08137561615.
