Olawepo-Hashim described players of the Nigeria’s senior female football team as “heroines”.

He stated this through a statement to celebrate the female team following their 3-2 thrashing of the host team, Morocco, in a thrilling match to win the Women’s African Cup of Nations in Rabat, Morocco for a record 10th time on Saturday.

Considered underdogs after a shaky start to the tournament, the Falcons displayed grit and spirit to overturn the odds to lift the trophy, igniting a wave of jubilation and renewed national pride across Nigeria.

Olawepo-Hashim, who said the Falcons rose “From Zero to Heroines,” added, “Yesterday, the Super Falcons reminded the world who we are, a people defined not by setbacks, but by resilience and unyielding determination.”

He emphasised that the triumph of the Super Falcons transcends sports to symbolising a broader national comeback amid Nigeria’s political, economic and social challenges.

“This victory is more than a game,” he added. “It is a message, Nigeria is coming back. Stronger. United. Unstoppable.”

The former presidential aspirant added that the historic victory could not have come at a more meaningful time.

“As Nigerians continue to grapple with inflation, insecurity, and institutional mistrust, the Super Falcons have offered a rare unifying moment, a story of hope, belief, and triumph against the odds.”

He noted that from Lagos to Abuja, Kano to Port Harcourt, the nation erupted in celebration, with fans waving flags, dancing, and singing deep into the night.

“With this victory, the Super Falcons not only reaffirmed their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s football team, but etched their names into the hearts of millions as symbols of what Nigeria can be, bold, brilliant, and victorious,” he noted.
