The deputy governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has congratulated fathers, guardians and father figures on the occasion of “Father’s Day”, praising their sacrifices and commitment to family development while urging them to embrace responsible parenting as a foundation for a better society.

In a message issued by his chief press secretary, Mr Friday Aghedo, the deputy governor said fathers remain critical to the growth of strong families and stable communities through their guidance, discipline, and dedication.

Idahosa noted that while many fathers work tirelessly to provide for their families, modern fatherhood demands much more than financial support.

According to him, fathers must also offer emotional support, moral leadership, and active involvement in the lives of their children.

He emphasised that as society continues to grapple with social and economic challenges, fathers have a greater responsibility to raise children who are responsible, compassionate, and productive members of society.

The deputy governor encouraged fathers to devote quality time to their children through regular communication, mentorship, and meaningful engagement, noting that such efforts help build trust, confidence, and stronger family bonds.

He also advised fathers to lead by example, stressing that children often learn more from the conduct of their parents than from verbal instructions.

He urged men to uphold values such as honesty, discipline, accountability, and respect in their daily lives.

Idahosa further called on fathers to invest in the education, skills acquisition, and personal development of their children, describing such investments as one of the most enduring legacies a parent can leave behind.

The deputy governor also highlighted the importance of instilling positive values, including civic responsibility, peaceful coexistence, and respect for others, while encouraging fathers to pay closer attention to the emotional and mental well-being of their children by creating supportive and nurturing home environments.

He stressed the need for fathers to work collaboratively with mothers and caregivers, noting that strong families are built on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared responsibility.

“As we celebrate fathers today, let us recommit ourselves to building stronger families, safer communities, and a more prosperous Edo State through responsible parenting and positive leadership at home,” he stated.
