FCT Poll: Amupitan Commends BVAS Performance, Reiterates Assurance Of Election Credibility

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Joash Amupitan, said the voices of residents of the Federal Capital Territory will be strongly reflected in today’s Area Council Election.

While monitoring the exercise across polling units in Garki, Wuse and other parts of the Abuja City Centre, he noted that all Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices deployed for the polls were functioning effectively.

He described the election as peaceful, explaining that although turnout was impressive in some locations, a few polling units recorded lower participation.

He commended voters for their orderly conduct, calling it a sign of democratic growth in the country.

Amupitan explained that areas that experienced delays in the arrival of materials had already been identified and were being addressed.

He added that officials at the FCT Election Monitoring Center were tracking such issues and working to resolve them promptly.

According to him, the commission was receiving positive reports from polling units across the six Area Councils.

He also praised the professionalism of security agencies on duty, noting that only individuals without proper accreditation or those who failed to present their tags encountered issues.

“The atmosphere is very calm in all the polling units,” he said.

The INEC Chairman assured that the commission would build on the experience gained from the FCT Area Council Election to strengthen future electoral exercises.
