Fire Destroys Shops At Yola Market In Adamawa

The Yola Town Market was in the early hours of Monday gutted by fire, destroying many shops as traders count their losses at the market at Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta who was at the scene of the incident Monday morning, assured that government was yet to ascertain the cause of the inferno and pledged to support the affected traders.

Farauta said, although the exact number of affected traders are yet to be determined, government would do everything possible to provided succour for them

“We are here to commiserate with our brothers and sisters who have been affected by this fire incident.

“Government would look into what has happened as the source of the fire and number of shops burnt shops is yet to be ascertained now,” the deputy governor said.

She asked the traders to take the colossal loss in good faith as no life was lost.

The Deputy Governor also urged the traders to allow access roads when building shops in case of fire incident.

Leader of the traders, Umar Abubakar, appealed to the government to support them, stating that many traders have been thrown out of business due to the fire disaster.

Abubakar disclosed that the fire started by 2am and took many unawares as traders were asleep at the time of the incident.

One of the affected traders, Saidu Musa said the intensity of the inferno was such that nothing could be salvaged from his shop.

The District Head of Yola town, Alhaji Zubairu Mustapha, thanked the state government for identifying with the traders over the sad incident.
