The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed 1,800 bags of rice and other food items to vulnerable residents in Ondo State as part of efforts to alleviate hunger and support disadvantaged Nigerians.

‎The items were presented to the wife of the Ondo State Governor, Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, at a ceremony held at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome), Igbatoro Road, Akure, on Tuesday.

‎The First Lady, who was represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, said the intervention was carried out under the Food Outreach Scheme of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme.

‎She said the scheme was established to provide food items to persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, while supporting their families and improving their well-being.

‎She said the food items were donated by the Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative and another donor who preferred to remain anonymous, adding that the initiative had so far distributed food items to 27 states, including the Federal Capital Territory.

‎She said, “Our goal at the Renewed Hope Initiative is to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by supporting Nigerians to strive and achieve their aspirations and addressing insecurity and malnutrition.”

‎Also speaking, the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, commended Senator Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Initiative for their vision and efforts to respond to the needs of vulnerable Nigerians.

‎He said the intervention aligned with the welfare component of his administration’s “OUR EASE” Development Agenda, which seeks to promote the welfare, dignity and resilience of women, children and families.

‎“Today’s event is more than food distribution; it is a celebration of compassion, solidarity and the shared commitment to uplift the most vulnerable among us,” he said.

‎According to him, food security remained essential to human dignity and social stability, assuring that his administration would continue to support policies that promote food availability, affordability and access across Ondo State.

‎The governor also appreciated the organisers and donors for their commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians, urging the beneficiaries to see the intervention as part of a broader effort to build resilient communities through sustained social investment.
