Flood Destroys 200 Houses, Shops In Yobe

Chairman of Nguru local government area of Yobe State, Hon Muhammad Mairami, has confirmed that flood has destroyed over 200 houses and some shops in his council.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP shortly after he visited the affected areas, he said that the affected areas include Hausari ward, Tsohowan Nguru, Shuwarin, Nayi nawa and Zango Kanwa.

He said that more than 200 houses and many shops were affected by floods due to the heavy rain in the town.

According to him, ” Let me tell you that I had visited all the affected areas to assess the damage caused by the disaster.”

He added, “At the moment, we are compiling a comprehensive report on the disaster for owners submission to the state government and SEMA for necessary action to the victims,” said Mairami.

The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has deployed its personnel to the community to assess the extent of damage for intervention.

 

He added, ” We visited the affected areas and distributed relief materials to the victims to alleviate their suffering.

 

He advised residents to keep their drainages clean and avoid building houses on waterways to avert another flooding.
