The executive director of the Esteem Hub Foundation, Princess Doo Agbadu, has said 350 children have been rescued by the organisation from gold mining sites in Niger State and enrolled in schools.

Agbadu disclosed this after a street walk from Mobil Roundabout to Kure Modern Market, Minna to mark the International Environment Day.

He said, “Aside from the campaign on climate justice, the Esteemed Hub Foundation from 2021 to date, has tried to eliminated child labour from gold mining and the street in Niger State”

“We have enrolled no fewer than 350 of them into school and provided them with school bags, text and exercise books, uniforms, sandals and socks among others,” she said.

Agbadu said the foundation has also empowered adults with kits such as grinding and sewing machines, as well as different machines to help them.

She observed that “women are the worst hit by environmental and climate disaster and should be carried along in the campaign on climate change.”

Princess Agbadu maintained that the street walks with majority of women participating will continue, adding that the foundation intend to spread the message across the state and the country at large on the need for people to avoid using plastics as the main theme of the World Environment Day.

“If you use the single plastic, give it to people that will recycle it, so that they can grind it and make another one,” she said.
