Osi Sports Foundation is to hold a 5km Marathon Aace in Kuje area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday.
Chairman of the foundation, Christopher Ameh, made this known yesterday at the press briefing, saying Kuje was chosen as the venue for the race because of its vibrance, potential and enthusiasm for sports.
Ameh said that by hosting the marathon in the council, they aim to tap into the energy, fostering local talent and boosting community involvement.
According to him, cash prizes would be given to the first to sixth positions after the completion of the race.
“This event is not just a race; it is a celebration of health, unity, and the potential of our youth. It is an opportunity to bring attention to the area and to show that positive activities like this can flourish in Kuje.
“We believe that sports can be a powerful vehicle for positive social change, offering young people a constructive alternative to the challenges of street life,” he said.
He further said that the Foundation involved in the 2023 MTN Making of Champions Abuja Edition, that athletes from the Foundation showcased their dedication and prowess, securing both gold and silver medals.
“These remarkable achievements underscore the impact of our programs in nurturing and developing young athletes to compete at the highest levels.
“Our core mission is to uplift underprivileged youth by engaging them in sports activities that not only enhance their physical abilities but also foster essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and leadership.
“However, limited resources significantly constrain our ability to reach more children and offer more comprehensive programs. From basic sports equipment to adequate training facilities, the lack of infrastructure hampers our efforts,” he said.
He said that with support from privileged Nigerians, they can expand their reach, enhance their programs, and continue to make a significant difference in the lives of these young athletes, saying that together, they can help them achieve their full potential and build a brighter, healthier future.
