Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has declared that it would be impossible for the suspended governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to join the party without passing through the right processes and procedures.
Okocha made the declaration yesterday while speaking on a live radio programme which was monitored in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
He said: “Just like every other Nigerian, he is at liberty to join any political party. That is the law. But, I say anybody, not restricted to the governor, the suspended governor anyway, anybody who wants to join the All Progressives Congress should enter the party through the door, not through the window.
“Now, the door, there are procedures, there are processes. Nobody goes to join the party at the national level. That is why you always hear that politics is local.
“You have to go to your ward to enroll because your name as a member of the party cannot be found at the national secretariat except it comes from your ward. That is the proper door, that is the proper process. You come to those whose responsibility it is to welcome you to the party.”
The APC chairman stated that based on the experience of the party before and during the 2023 general elections, the party would not want to welcome people who do not have good intentions for it.
Okocha said: “We don’t want people who don’t have good intentions for the party. We know what we passed through in 2023 and we don’t want that to happen in 2027.”
