The Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State has awarded an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree (honoris causa) on Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, the House of Representatives member representing Bichi Federal Constituency of Kano State.
The award recognised his extensive contributions to educational advancement in Nigeria.
During the University’s convocation ceremony on Saturday, FUDMA’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Armayau Hamisu, commended Hon. Abubakar Bichi for his commitment to education.
Prof. Hamisu highlighted Bichi’s recent sponsorship of 21 postgraduate students to study engineering in Malaysia and his support for more than 5,000 students from Bichi LGA of Kano State pursuing higher education across Nigeria.
He noted that Bichi’s efforts have greatly impacted FUDMA, providing funding for critical projects that enhance the institution’s academic resources and infrastructure.
“Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, Member House of Representatives, Bichi Federal Constituency, and chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, has significantly contributed through his oversight function,” he stated.
Prof. Hamisu further remarked. “With his support, FUDMA has constructed three new faculties, a library, a female hostel, and an auditorium.”
Also, in appreciation of his support, FUDMA named a newly completed 200-seat auditorium in honour of the lawmaker, which Hon. Bichi officially commissioned following the convocation, pledging to continue working to advance academic institutions across Nigeria.
Expressing gratitude for the honour, Hon. Bichi said, “Universities in developed countries have leveraged alternative funding with great effect, and Nigerian institutions should begin adopting similar measures.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing education and emphasised the need for collective support to elevate Nigerian institutions.
Hon. Bichi was joined at the event by fellow House or Representatives members, family, friends, and supporters who gathered to celebrate his achievements.
