Political adviser to the Zamfara State governor, Hon. Ilyasu Buhari Maijega, has urged President Bola Tinubu to fulfill his pledge of ending banditry in Zamfara and other parts of the North West geopolitical zone.

Addressing journalists in his office yesterday, Maijega reminded the president that it was high time for him to act fast and bring an end to banditry before December this year.

Maijega advised the president to deploy more troops to Zamfara and other states where bandits are currently unleashing mayhem on the inhabitants.

He said, “The people of Zamfara need nothing more than security to bring an end to banditry  in the state. We urge President Bola Tinubu to redeem his promise of ending banditry by December 2025.”

The special adviser said the present administration of Governor Dauda Lawal had been trying it’s best to address security issues since he took over the mantle of leadership.

He stressed that Governor Lawal had been making frantic efforts to end banditry in the state within the past two years of his administration.

Maijega, however, lamented, “The governor lacks the capacity to effectively fight the insurgents because he is not in total control of the security personnel.”

He added that a few days after he was sworn in  he visited all the security chiefs in Abuja with a view to bringing lasting a solution to insecurity.

He also maintained that the present administration had  invited Borno vigilantes to supplement the Community Protection Guards (CPGs) all with a view to solve the issue of insecurity in the state.

Reacting to alleged plans by some politicians to rig the forthcoming state assembly by-election for Kaura-Namoda South through vote buying,  Maijega warned that those nursing the idea would have themselves to blame.

He said, “Our party (PDP) is ever ready to ensure that vote buyers do not succeed in their dubious activity and will be ashamed at the end.”

He expressed optimism that the election would be in their favour, considering the achievements recorded by Governor Lawal’s administration in the state in all sectors of human endeavor.
