Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has approved the constitution of a 13-member committee to oversee the distribution of fertiliser for the 2025 farming season across the state.
According to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, on Monday, the initiative is part of the Governor Yahaya administration’s effort to ensure transparency and efficiency in the delivery of critical agricultural inputs to farmers.
The committee, to be chaired by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, comprises key stakeholders drawn from government agencies, civil society, security agencies, and representatives of farmers and vulnerable groups.
Other members include the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, the Special Adviser on Agriculture and Farmer-Herder Coordination, and permanent secretaries from relevant ministries. The Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Gombe Chapter, representatives from People with Disabilities, Civil Society Organisations, and security agencies, including the Police, DSS, and NSCDC, are also part of the team.
The committee is expected to supervise and monitor the distribution process to ensure fair and equitable access to fertiliser among farmers across all 11 local government areas of the state.
In a statement issued by Isma’il Uba Misilli, Director General, Press Affairs, the SSG emphasised that the formation of the committee reflects the governor’s commitment to curbing diversion, favouritism, and other irregularities that have historically marred input distribution in the country.
“The Governor is keen on ensuring that every eligible farmer, regardless of location or status, has access to the support they need for a productive farming season,” Professor Njodi stated.
The Director of Agriculture in the Ministry of Agriculture will serve as Secretary of the committee.
