Governor Mbah Appoints Maduka Okoye As Enugu State Ambassador

Enugu State governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has appointed Super Eagles goalkeeper and Udinese FC of Italy player, Maduka Okoye, as the state’s  Ambassador.

Governor Mba announced the appointment when the player paid him a courtesy visit at the  Government House in Enugu, yesterday.

He commended Okoye for making Enugu State proud on the national and international stage, describing him as a role model who would inspire young people, particularly pupils in the state’s Smart Green Schools.

The governor praised the player for bringing pride to Enugu State on both national and international levels and announced his appointment as Ambassador of Enugu State, emphasising Okoye’s potential to inspire young people, particularly students in the state’s Smart Green Schools.

“Maduka Okoye represents the best of Enugu talent on the national and global stage,” Governor Mbah remarked. “As a state, we take pride in his achievements and are inspired by his desire to give back. We are appointing him as an Ambassador of Enugu State, believing he will be an excellent source of motivation for the next generation of talent in our Smart Green Schools and communities.”

The governor also committed to supporting Okoye’s football academy initiative, offering land for the project. He outlined plans to renovate and upgrade the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to meet FIFA standards and extended an invitation for Okoye to participate in the next edition of the Enugu International Marathon, which will attract elite runners from around the globe.

Governor Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering youth development, talent, and creativity, pledging that the government would continue to create opportunities for young people in Enugu State to thrive both nationally and internationally.

Okoye, a native of Enugu State, expressed his delight at being back in his home region. He shared plans to launch a charitable foundation and establish a football academy aimed at giving back to the community, inspiring young talent, and nurturing future stars in the sport.

“I’m truly excited to be back home. Enugu is my origin, and I carry that pride with me everywhere I go. I look forward to giving back to society by setting up a foundation for humanitarian causes and a football academy to mentor and train aspiring players,” he stated.
