Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) in collaboration with Committee of States’ Commissioners for Education has appointed the Cross River State commissioner for education, Stephen Adi Odey, as head of the Technical Working Group for the forthcoming international conference on girl-child education in Nigeria.
Odey’s appointment is contained in a letter conveyed to him on February 15, 2024, by the director-general of Nigeria Governor’s Forum, Asishana Okauru.
The letter from the NGF Secretariat in Abuja urged Odey to brace for the enormous responsibility.
Okauru said the inauguration of Odey scheduled for March 26, 2024 will be done alongside other members of the committee drawn from the Office of Vice President, Ministries of Education, Women Affairs and Youths Development, development partners and private sector coalition and governors spouses’ forum ahead of the international confab that will take place on October 11, this year.
Giving an insight on the conference themed; “Girl Child Empowerment through Quality Education” the letter said, “It will be held in commemoration of International Day of the Girl Child”, to be co-hosted by the NGF and committee of states’ commissioners of education in Nigeria.
Among other things that the conference would do include availing the critical stakeholders in the education sector opportunity to commit to girl child education support and funding declaration, launching of the state girl child education volunteers’ advocate, and unveiling of the face of the girl child education ambassador in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.
