The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and environs of safety during the Yuletide season.
The Commander Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, gave the assurance during a two-day Field Training Exercise (FTX) from 13 – 14 October 2025.
A statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Guards Brigade, Lt. Odunola Olawuyi, said the exercise aimed to train personnel in ambush and anti-ambush operations.
Olawuyi said the lecture segment of the FTX was conducted at the 176 Guards Battalion Training Hall, General OA Azazi Barracks, Gwagwalada. At the same time, practical drills were held along Road Rafin Zurfi – Ibua.
In his remarks, Commander Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, commended the efforts of the Commanding Officer, 176 Guards Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Oladimeji Ajongbo, for organising the exercise.
He noted that they highlighted the importance of the training exercise, which was in accordance with the training directives of the Army Headquarters.
He stated that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has made training a vital component of his Command Philosophy to enhance operational efficiency and meet modern warfare’s demands.
He explained that the FTX was designed to equip troops with the requisite knowledge and practical skills needed to tackle emerging security threats within the Federal Capital Territory and parts of Niger and Nasarawa States.
The exercise featured the practical phase of ambush and anti-ambush drills conducted in the field, where troops demonstrated tactical deployment, engagement techniques, and immediate counter-ambush drills.
“The practical session provided participants hands-on experience to reinforce the theoretical knowledge gained during the lecture phase.
“Following the ambush and anti-ambush drills, an interactive session was held, during which participants asked questions and sought clarifications on various aspects of the FTX,” she said.
The Commander emphasised the significance of the training, noting that continuous and realistic exercises such as this are essential for troops’ readiness and operational success.
