The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Kaduna State Council, has denied reports on social media that it plans to embark on a statewide strike.

The union clarified a statement addressed to the state head of Service and signed by Comrade Sani Yusuf Saulawa on behalf of the chairman.

According to the statement, the union’s attention was drawn to unverified reports alleging an impending industrial action by MHWUN in the state.

“The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Kaduna State Council, has no plan whatsoever to embark on any strike action in the state,” the statement said.

The union commended the Kaduna State Government, under Gov. Uba Sani, for its proactive policies and interventions aimed at improving the health sector.

It listed some of the achievements, including the approval and implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS/CONMESS) for health workers across the state and within the State Primary Health Care Board (SPHCB).

Other achievements highlighted include the promotion and implementation of three years’ outstanding promotions, the upgrading and renovation of 255 health facilities and general hospitals, as well as the supply of essential medical equipment to primary health care centres and general hospitals.

The statement also noted the provision of ambulances to general hospitals to enhance referral services across the state, as well as the ongoing recruitment of 1,800 health professionals under the SPHCB.

According to the union, more than 90 per cent of the workforce under the SPHCB are members of MHWUN, stressing that there is no justification or intention to disrupt industrial harmony through any form of strike.

The union further expressed optimism that the state government was aware of its outstanding demands and would address them within the year.

It assured the government of its commitment to industrial peace, dialogue and continued cooperation, while urging the public to disregard the rumours of a planned strike action (NAN)
