Popular Yoruba actor, Adekola Tijani, popularly known as Kamilu Kompo, has finally addressed the growing controversy surrounding his relocation to Canada, setting the record straight on why he left Nigeria.

Contrary to widespread claims that he moved abroad in search of a better life, the actor revealed that his decision to leave was prompted by challenges he faced with the Nigerian government, colleagues in the movie industry, the Nigerian Film Censorship Board, and film marketers.

“There were little issues here and there with the Nigerian government and my colleagues in the industry. That is why I had to relocate. It wasn’t about seeking a better life but rather about overcoming the difficulties I faced in Nigeria,” Tijani clarified.

The actor expressed gratitude to the Ontario government for accepting him and honoring him with an award of recognition. He acknowledged the support he received from key figures in Canada, including the Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown.

“I give thanks to God for allowing me and my family to find favor in the sight of the Ontario government, for accepting us and giving us a chance to stay in the country,” he said.

Tijani also addressed false narratives being spread by certain blogs and media outlets. He stated that The Conquest magazine and online Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Bamidele Adeyemi, had informed him about misleading reports claiming he relocated purely for a better life.

In an Instagram post, he showed appreciation to the organizers of the event, Mr. Maurice Imadu and Dewitt’s Lee Consultants, for the recognition award given to him for his hard work and resilience. He also expressed gratitude to Patrick Brown, the Mayor of Brampton, Ayodeji Oluwasola, and Lola Alao, his co-awardees, for their guidance and encouragement during his transition.

Others who received awards at the event included Muyiwa Ademola, Esther Kalejaye Eniola, and  Kunle Afod.

In conclusion, Tijani remains grateful for the warm reception he and his family received in Canada. His recognition by the city of Brampton stands as a testament to his resilience and hard work—qualities that continue to define his journey, both in Nigeria and beyond.
