A Strategist/humanitarian, and Co-founder of the Madam Moesillo Foundation, Princess Diana Eyo-Enoette, has called on the government to provide a safe environment for all aid workers who are assisting other citizens.
Enoette, who stated this on the occasion of the World Humanitarian Day celebration in Abuja, commended all aid and development workers who step up each day to provide life-saving assistance to millions of people in Nigeria and globally.
She said humanitarian workers are unsung heroes who play a critical role in nation-building while emphasising that the 2023 World Humanitarian Day celebration centred around the commitment and support of aid workers who deliver quality care and service to the communities they serve.
The development worker noted that this year World Humanitarian Day is the 20th anniversary of the bomb attack of the UN Headquarters in Baghdad Iraq which killed 22 humanitarian workers, and several others were injured.
“Due to this development, the UN General Assembly in 2008, designated 19 August every year as World Humanitarian Day, to raise awareness about humanitarian assistance worldwide. The day is also used to pay tribute to the heroes who risk their lives to provide humanitarian services to others”, she said.
She urged humanitarian workers to support each other in the course of work and ensure that the less privileged and those in risk communities have access to quality life.
