Professor Zabbey made this statement following his reinstatement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after a performance review of the HYPREP Project.

Expressing his gratitude, Professor Zabbey thanked President Tinubu for his reinstatement and commended the President for his unwavering commitment to accelerating the Ogoni Clean-up as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasised his renewed vigour, passion, and dedication to meeting stakeholders’ expectations and delivering a world-class project that adheres to the highest standards.

Professor Zabbey acknowledged the eagerness of stakeholders and communities for the speedy and quality completion of various HYPREP projects in Ogoniland. These projects include the construction of the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration (CEER), the Ogoni Specialist Hospital and Buan Cottage Hospital, the Ogoni Power Project, the provision of potable water, sustainable livelihoods programs, remediation of oil-impacted land and shoreline sites, and mangrove restoration.

He highlighted HYPREP’s strategic policy of inclusivity and robust stakeholder engagement to ensure community buy-in. Professor Zabbey noted that increased communication with critical stakeholders would be prioritised, and he thanked the Ogoni community for their support and ownership of the clean-up efforts.
