Benue State commissioner for works, housing and urban development, Tiza Imojime, has won the 2023/2024 Nelson Mandela Excellent Award.
But he warned persons, organisations, and associations among others intending to honour him to halt the process until Benue State through Governor Hyacinth Alia is taken out of its current state of rots.
The commissioner also said that he is not comfortable receiving award a few months in office, saying, as a young man with the desire to support the development agenda of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration, he considered receiving awards a distraction.
The award was presented to him by the Likeminds Support for Good Governance in Africa (LSGGA) in conjunction with the National Forum for Youth and Women Education Development (NFYWED) and TNEN-News in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
In his presentation, the northern coordinator LSGGA, John Tondo said, the award is in recognition of the commissioner’s pragmatic leadership style in infrastructural development of the state especially in the area of access roads across the state.
He said, “You have been chosen for this award in recognition of your service to humanity, contribution to human development, socio economic, growth of the state within few months in office as the
Commissioner for Works, Housing and Urban Development and as the youngest commissioner in the administration this will spur you to do more and serve as an encouragement and inspiration to other young persons.”
Responding, the commissioner, who commended the group for acknowledging his efforts towards the development of the state however said, now is time to take Benue State out of underdevelopment.
He said, “We are just few months in office doing all we can to support the governor in his quest to redeem the image of the state which has become a laughing stock in the community of states and place it on the global map in all spheres of life.”
